“It’s about the person, not the process,” says Stephen Manning, one of the founders of Immigrant Law Group PC when explaining the concept behind the firm’s name.  Founded in 2002 by Stephen, Jessica Boell, and Jennifer Rotman, Immigrant Law Group PC has taken seriously its mission to litigate cases of public significance to improve the rights and treatment of immigrants, refugees, and their families.

According to Jessica, “We each worked in the non-profit field after law school but saw that clients needed advocates to push for systemic changes and that to effectuate this change immigrants needed more access to the courts.”  This concern restates the underlying philosophy of ILG: the independent judiciary is a critical player in the functioning of our society and in defining what the rights and responsibilities are for the different actors in the immigration system.  Jennifer views ILG’s approach to client advocacy as a small part in improving the rights of immigrants across the country.  “Society can be quick to blame the foreigner because it is politically easy to do. Our role is to at least make it more legally difficult for this type of scapegoating to occur.”

“Our approach to all client advocacy begins with the person and ends with the person,” says Stephen.  “We have a great team of people -- Alyssa Minchow, Angelina Rodriguez, Jordan Cunnings, Bernadette Romero-Sierra – and amazing colleagues in Oregon.”  In five and half years since its founding, “Team ILG” has provided some $750,000 of free legal services.  The attorneys at ILG have all spent a significant percentage of their time on pro bono cases.
