Laura Lunn, the 2010 ILG Summer Fellow. “I have a passion for defending the rights of immigrants and refugees,” says Laura, who was selected as the 2010 ILG Summer Fellow. A second year student at the University of Iowa College of Law, she completed her undergraduate degree at Colgate University majoring in Peace and Conflict Studies. Her undergraduate thesis, “The Separatist Conflict in the Casamance Region of Senegal and its Implications for the Victims of Violence,” reflects her international passion and desire for justice. Outside of her academics, she volunteered with refugees at World Relief Chicago, the Justice For Our Neighbors (JFON) and the University of Iowa Center for Human Rights (UICHR). Laura was selected from a large field of excellent and exceptional applicants. “It is amazing to see the number of committed, compassionate, and talented law students who are pursuing immigrant law,” says Jennifer Rotman, chair of the 2010 Fellowship committee. “The field of immigration law is about to change and people like Laura will be at the forefront.” The 2010 ILG Summer Fellow will focus on impact litigation and asylum defense. The Fellowship provides a law student who has completed two years of legal education with the opportunity to work for a summer on novel legal issues that create positive social or legal change in immigrant communities. |
