500 & Deferred Action – A Round of Applause, please
500 is a nice number. It is smooth and round. It is perched half-way between zero and a thousand, balanced. It is also the number of applications filed and approved for Deferred Action under ILG’s Campaign for Immigrant Youth.
There is a lot to be said for the success of the program. Huge and enormous thanks go to the staff at ILG. They’ve worked extra hours, made extra efforts, and well just have done everything extra well. The success also comes from a rigorous screening process and a strong quality control process that helps youth get prepared for their appointments, assemble applications and evidence, and present those applications only when they are really ready for filing. About a third of the applicants got services through the one-step processing model.
The Campaign continues this year! In collaboration with the Multnomah County Library system, we are presenting a series of workshops at branch libraries. If you are an allied organization (school, library, community center, youth program) interested in hosting a DACA workshop — we are ready to help: details here. If you are an immigrant youth looking for assistance or just have questions about getting started — we can help: details here.
